How do I use Quilter’s Fusible Batting™?

When using June Tailor’s Quilter’s Fusible Batting, it is important to layer your quilt top, batting and back before beginning to fuse. To fuse all three layers of your quilt at once, set your iron on a wool setting with heavy steam. Simply press your quilt from the center to the outer edges. Make sure you keep your iron moving, pressing approximately 3-4 seconds in each area. Once you have covered the entire surface area of your quilt, allow the quilt to cool. You may then begin quilting by hand or machine.

To fuse one side at a time, we recommend layering your quilt top, batting and back before beginning to fuse. Your iron should be set on a wool setting; however, this time you will not use steam. You will press your quilt from the center to the outer edges. Keep your iron moving and press approximately 3-4 seconds in each area. Once you have covered the entire surface area of your quilt, allow the quilt to cool. You will then turn your quilt over and repeat the pressing process on the other side of your quilt. Once you have covered the entire surface area of the second side, allow the quilt to cool. You may then begin quilting by hand or machine.

How do I reposition my Quilter’s Fusible Batting™?

To reposition the Quilter’s Fusible Batting™, simply reheat the area that is to be repositioned, with or without steam. Once the area is thoroughly heated, gently peel the fabric away from the batting, pull the fabric in the desired direction and immediately lay the fabric back onto batting, smoothing with your hands. You can then reheat the surface with or without steam to re-adhere your fabric to the fusible batting. Allow to cool.

Where is the best place to fuse my quilt?

You can fuse your quilt using June Tailor’s Quilter’s Fusible Batting™ on your ironing board or any other pressing surface that is large enough to hold your quilt. Please be mindful that the surface you choose to fuse your quilt on can withstand the heat and steam of an iron. June Tailor is not responsible for damage to a surface that is not meant for pressing.
Back To Questions

How far apart can my stitches be when using Quilter’s Fusible Batting™?

When using June Tailor’s Low Loft Polyester or High Loft Polyester Fusible Batting™ you can quilt as far apart as 4” to 6” or as close together as you desire. When using June Tailor’s Cotton Fusible Batting, we recommend quilting as far apart as 3” to 5”, or as close together as you desire.
Back To Questions

Will the Quilter’s Fusible Batting™ shrink when washed?

The Cotton Fusible Batting is preshrunk. If any shrinkage would occur, it would be a minimum of 2% to 3%. You should not experience any shrinkage with our Low Loft or High Loft Polyester Fusible Batting.
Back To Questions

The polyester Quilter’s Fusible Batting feels stiff. Will it soften over time?

The Low Loft and High Loft Polyester Fusible Battings can feel stiff at first. This is because the batting contains a fusible, which is holding your quilt layers together. Once you have finished your quilt, you can rinse it in cold water. The rinsing process removes the fusible in the batting, softening your quilt. The fusible can remain in your quilt if you would like your quilt to have more body. You would simply not rinse your quilt in cold water to keep the fusible active.
