mats are hard surface for superior durability. Soft-top surface
mats were intended to conceal cut marks. However, this soft
upper surface traps fabric and batting fibers in the cuts,
causing shredding and premature mat failure. June Tailor cutting
mats are hard surface mats which means it is not necessary
to use excessive pressure when cutting through your fabric.
Your rotary cutter blade rides on top of the cutting mat and
is not intended to cut into the plastic as you do with a soft
surface mat.
